Uh oh. It appears that the Muslims are finally beating the total world Catholic population. According to Reuters UK, the Vatican has made a statement about the ever growing Muslim population after conducting official religion demographics for 2008. Well it looks like the status-quo is changing in the East and Islam may very well take over parts of Europe as the official religion in the future. Click here to read more.

Newsleecher Logo

For beating around USENET, you gotta have an easy-to-use newsgroup reader that can satisfy all the requirements for proper access, yet deliver a fun and enjoyable experience too. That’s why I recommend NewsLeecher for all things USENET. The user interface is simple enough, but it is jam packed with advanced features that will make even the most die-hard veteran of USENET squeal with delight. I just love how easy it is to search for what I want using the exclusive SuperSearch function. Newsleecher also offers the ability to work with split-RAR archives and PAR files for download accuracy. Wait… Don’t forget that NewsLeecher also offers SSL support for secure connections to and from USENET (NewsLeecher is one of the few readers avaliable to even offer this capability). In terms of the price, the $2.99 per month fee is hard to beat. Now don’t take my word for it. Go on and try it on for size and see how easy USENET can be!

Hi…

CompUSA Logo

Look out, world! CompUSA has taken a complete about face. When we all thought the store was to suffer a horrible demise, Systemax stepped in and saved the day for all of us. The new and vastly-improved CompUSA is a refreshing reboot of an old friend in the computer retail business. Simply put, the selection of  merchandise is overwhelming, the prices are exceptionally low, the customer service is top notch and the ultra-fast next day delivery is spot on. I couldn’t believe it. Heck, they even offer PayPal as a payment option for those without credit cards (like me). Try topping all THAT NewEgg! All I can say is that Systemax is doing a fine job of resurrecting the company from everlasting inferno. Now the only thing I want is a CompUSA location in Pittsburgh and some Ubuntu Linux systems to choose from and I will be just dandy.

G’day mates!

Sauerbraten Logo

Wanna kick some serious villain ass? How about constructing levels as you play them… on the fly? Good greif! How can a first-person shooter be so flexible? I have no idea, but Sauerbraten seems to do that well. If you are itching for some trigger-finger action, download this one and shoot your heart out!

P.S. This game is open source. If you wish to develop your own game around the engine, you may do so freely.

So ya wanna podcast, right? Then I would suggest that you steer clear of most standard hosting services. Sure, many of those sites may offer tantalizing storage sizes, but have you ever thought about bandwidth? Just think about the numbers of surfers that come to click on your stream and listen to it. When you think about it, bandwidth usage is going to skyrocket and, before you know it, you will be left with an extremely expensive hosting bill. What’s the solution to this precarious problem?

Libsyn Logo

Fear not! Liberated Syndication, or libsyn, is here to save the day! Unlike other hosting services, libsyn charges you for the storage and not for the bandwidth consumption. The costs are very reasonable and the storage is spacious enough for any podcaster. Heck, you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank with this service.

Hey!

Newsgroup Binaries Logo

Just in case you didn’t know, there are quite a few Usenet groups out there that provide downloadable software content. Unfortunately, I distrust Usenet in general as poor amount of content and crappy download speeds are prevalent issues. But, if you are still itching to check out a good newsgroup or two, particularly for software downloads, I encourage you to visit Newsgroup Binaries and look at the array of goodies to choose from and it is cheap. It’s no wonder it is one of the better newsgroup service providers around. In order to acquire any kind of content on servers listed within, there is a nominal monthly fee which covers bandwidth usage, ensures high speed data connections and keeps some of the best retention and reliability in the Usenet world alive. Also, in order to view the newsgroups, you are going to need newsgroup reader software. One product I would commission for the job would be News Rover, an excellent reader that provides an awesome interface for working with newsgroups and the files within them. Go see for yourself and experience the world of great newsgroups today.

I am sure some of you have heard of the D language, the brainchild of Walter Bright. The language touts features such as garbage collection and the ability to compile to machine code. Yet, after quietly floating on various programming forums, there is an air of skepticism about the need for yet another language. Sure, you have your classic C/C++ which have been used since the dinosaurs roamed. There are also plenty of other flavors that are able to perform their specialized duties like Ruby on Rails, Perl, Python and many others. So why bother? I do feel that D does have useful features and important characteristics that should be looked at seriously.

No legacy underpinnings - With no need for backwards compatibility, this makes for a very forward thinking language. Seriously, I thought 16-bit code was a thing of the past? Apparently, C++ is riddled with legacy support.

Increased productivity - Since the structure of D allows for smaller code than C++ to perform the same operations, productivity is increased by at least ten percent.

Down and dirty programming support - Yes, even though D aims for simplicity, sometimes you gotta use assembly to write machine specific code. D provides such support so that low level instructions can be written and executed.

Gradual learning curve for programmers with experience in C/C++ - The language shares many similarities with it’s older cousins making the transition to D an incredibly easy process.

Well there is alot more to the language than I can discuss here, but if my points helped to whet your appetite a bit, I would suggest that you head over to Digital Mars’ D page on their website and see what’s cookin’.
