It has actually been said that, after the bungled assassination attempt on him in 1968, he gave up his career as a seedy, avant-garde film maker and took a different perspective on his own artwork. In fact, his artwork began to show signs of religious undertones which, in effect, began to become more and more noticeable as the years went on. Finally, shortly before he died, he even made his own rendition of the Last Supper, pop-art style which used three primary colors (possibly to signify the Holy Trinity). But I have to be careful here not to make assumptions based upon that particular work, but I thought it was interesting to note. Thanks for the comment. While I don't doubt some sincerity in his faith the guy was obviously very conflicted, both by his sexuality as well as some of his "artistic undertakings His movies (not something he was well known for )were total trash and incompatible with the Catholic faith.
